Your dream getaway on beautiful Lake Como in Italy. Balcony view.jpg

lakemap.gifLake Como has become a mecca for the more discerning traveller for holidays due to its intoxicating mix of breathtaking scenery, mouth watering delicious cuisine and world class amenities. Small tranquil villages along the lake  have become more and more popular for holiday makers. We offer a large luxury apartment with beautiful views of the lake.

The region has become synonymous with celebrities thanks to several high profile names seeking to make Lake Como their home in recent years.

With its sumptuous waterfront villas and dramatic peaks, the splendour of the Italian Lake District is legendary. Writers from Virgil to Hemmingway have flocked to Lake Como, inspired by its tranquil waters and surrounding snow capped mountains. With charming villages of Menaggio, Bellagio and Varenna located on the shores of the lake, you can acquaint yourself with the towns, its people, and their local customs.

From here, cruise to gem-like islands, venture into medieval churches and roman ruins, and enjoy a lesson in Italian cooking. Savour the everyday joys of la dolce vita in one of Italy's most exquisite and exclusive spots.

Lake Como, dear to Stendhal, is also called Lario and is divided into three branches of almost equal length (Como, Colico and Lecco). It is striking for its position in a mountain landscape and its shores are dotted with picturesque villages, luxurious villas and parks. The whole area has a gentle and temperate climate.

Como was founded by the Romans in 196 B.C. on the site of a Celtic village. A possession of the powerful duchy of Milan in the middle-ages, it was well known in Italy and abroad for the skill of its builders and above all for the production of and trade in silk. There are many artistic sites to see in the town. Among them are the Church of Sant'Abbondio of the 11th century, and the Basilica of San Fedele. The heart of the old town is the Piazza del Duomo with its Renaissance Cathedral (Duomo), one of the most beautiful churches in Lombardy. The attractive walk along Lungo Lario takes the visitor to the Tempio Voltiano, where the mementos and relics of Alessandro Volta (1745-1827), the inventor of the battery, are conserved.

Not far from Como is Cernobbio, which houses the marvelous Park of Villa d'Este (16th century). Further north are the towns of Moltrasio and LaglioBuco dell' Orso (the bear's hole) is easily reached.

"Italy is not only the largest producer of wines, but above all a producer of great wines.”

Its climate, soil and very old traditions of viticulture make Italy a natural wine growing nation. The wines are as personal as a name, as different as the colors of the rainbow and as much a part of Italian life as almost 3,000 years of tradition can make them. The Etruscans of North-Central Italy, who created one of the peninsula's earliest civilizations, left evidence of how to make wine. The Greeks who soon after established themselves in the South gave Italy the name Enotria (the land of wine). For centuries wine growing has been the cultivation which used most of the labor of the Italian farmers; this is still true today; a large part of the population is engaged in the vine and wine industry.

San Siro lies on the western shore of the lake and is less than 40 kms away from the centre of Como. It is steeped in history from old fountains, chapels, small churches, and ruins of ancient convents and fortresses. It has also been blessed by nature with a blooming vegetation that covers most of the area and hosts various species of animals and trees.

We are located about 3 minutes drive from the centre of the village with bars, restaurants, and a number of other shops eg green grocer, florist etc. There is also a small shop just a short stroll away from the apartment itself which can cater for all your basic needs (milk, bread, water, wine etc). Here you can view and download a Brochure of San Siro.

San Siro has a lovely shingle beach and there are a number of other beaches just a short distance away. There are numerous small bars in the village, and a fantastic selection of restaurants and snack bars in the surrounding areas (La Biaia being just one of our favourites, offering a wide menu, fabulous taste, a beautiful setting and great value.)

Many neighbouring villages, both to the north and south have fantastic beaches with ample beach bars/restaurants. You can find a variety of restaurants to satify your needs, from the tourist menu, excite your tastebuds with local cuisine, to treating yourself to a local speciality meat or fish dish. It's well worth just wandering around to see what you can discover.

The area is a hotspot for water sports, with boating, jet skiing, windsurfing and kite boarding being a few of the favourites.

Where is San Siro? The apartment is within easy reach of Milan's 3 international airports (Linate, Bergamo, Malpensa) served by a number of airlines including Ryanair, Jet2 and Easyjet. Linate approx 1 hr, Malpensa 1 hr, Bergamo 1.5 hrs. All airports have rail links to Milan. Trains run frequently to Como town from Milan with regular bus services to San Siro.

Car hire is available from all major airports and Como itself and is recommended as there is so much to see. Car hire companies include Hertz, Avis and Europcar. A private taxi can be arranged from airport at an additional cost.
